The King's School Pontefract / United Kingdom

School Website:

The King’s School is an 11-16 mixed Comprehensive school in West Yorkshire which is in the north of England. The school is situated in a semi-urban area, ex_mining industry and now mainly retail and leisure industries. Out intake covers a mixture of families from both socially deprived and economically advantaged areas. We are an inclusive school; about 7% of our students have special needs.

Our specialist subjects are Mathematics and ICT and we also excel in The Arts and in sports. We have a very strong extra-curricular programme of study, offering a wide range of activities to students after school. We have a love of teaching and learning and achieve very good examination results. Our staff are learners too and most of them, both teachers and support staff, are engaged in continuing professional development. Many are studying for higher degrees.

We work closely in partnership with our neighbouring schools, colleges and universities. We are a member of the Pontefract Education Trust which ebables both secondary, primary, further education and higher education establishments to work together for the best needs of all of our students.

We are a strong community school, working with many outside agencies on projects to improve the community or to raise funds for charity.

We have opportunities for study visits abroad including France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the USA. Some of our students have also trekked in the Himalayas. We have international links with schools in Bangladesh and Ghana.
